Russian government prolongs food import ban until end of 2019

MOSCOW, Jul 23 (PRIME) -- The Russian government has prolonged a ban on food imports from states that supported the anti-Russian sanctions until the end of 2019, the government said in a ruling published on the website for disclosure of legal information late on July 20.

In 2014, relations between Russia and the West deteriorated to their worse since the Cold War due to a military conflict in Ukraine. The West introduced sanctions against some Russian individuals and firms and further against the energy and banking sectors. In response, Russia limited food imports from some countries, including the U.S., the E.U., Canada, Australia, and Norway.

The E.U. Council prolonged its anti-Russian economic sanctions for six more months until January 31, 2019 on July 5, 2018.
